The secrets to camping in Winter

Camping in winter it’s certainly a different experience compared to summer.  Judging by the amount of campers we have at the moment, they are really enjoying the cooler conditions.   There are lots of camp fires and many a marshmallow to be toasted with sing a longs, card games and scary stories told by the river in the still of the night.

We have observed our winter campers, barbequing their bacon and eggs for breakfast, then throwing a fishing line out and getting a bite or two. Afterwards Mum and Dad are collecting the kids and all the family go for a fun bike ride along the river and around the golf course.  Go back for some hot chips at the Rio Cafe for lunch and then you start to think about the big high light of the night – the fire and where do you get your wood from.  You could buy it from the office for $20.00 a bag, alternatively you could get in the car and drive around Del Rio Riverside Resort and collect it yourselves and you can see the excitement in the kids’ faces “What an adventure” they hike up through the mountain and you see them, mostly Dad and the kids dragging back the biggest dead branches they can find to put on the fire.

So camping isn’t just for the summer months, you can have just as much fun in the winter.

Please note: Campfires are permitted during the winter months as long as they are in a suitable fire brazier- they cannot be on the ground or in large gallon drums. Fires may be possible during Autumn and Spring dependent on fire conditions- please contact Del Rio reception to enquire. Del Rio has a limited number of braziers for guests to use which can be collected free of charge from the office.
