RedAss NSW/ACT Downhill State Series at the Del Rio Riverside Resort in Wisemans Ferry

Mudd and hero dirt reign at Del Rio

More than 160 downhill riders competed at the second round of this year’s RedAss NSW/ACT Downhill State Series at the Del Rio Resort in Wisemans Ferry last weekend. In tough weather and trail conditions the experienced gravity racer Graeme Mudd from Newcastle made an awesome comeback from illness taking out the Elite Male category and Junior Women World Cup Series Leader Danielle Beecroft takes out the Elite Female win.

The hosting Western Sydney Mountainbike Club had revived the legendary “Del Sin” track at Del Rio for round two of the RedAss Downhill State Series and to pay tribute a high-profile field of riders assembled at Wisemans Ferry last weekend. On Saturday, training went underway in ideal conditions on the sandy and rocky course that drops over 200m into dense bush land with ferns and newly groomed trails, across fast chutes and tight berms towards the finish.

World Cup and National series racers as well as National and State Downhill Champions practiced the “relatively short, but tough track”, including the reigning State 4X Champion Graeme Mudd from Newcastle who was back from illness at what was to be his first race in almost five months. The forecast rain hit the venue early on Sunday morning, however, not as strong as feared and racing went ahead as planned.
